Gonna plan a couple of day's on the North Fox River that will include fishing north of the State park to the state line. We can also hop over the border into Wisconsin if you have both licenses. Should get out about 8-9am and will fish til about 3pm.

Tentative date's will be Sept 18th and the 25th.

Maybe a little contest just for fun and a brew afterwards is in order. icon_cool.gif

Anyone interested, Let me know.

Yes, a Chain sticker would be required. They do sell single day stickers I think their $10.00. If it's any consolation, Oak Point State Park where we'll meet to launch is free.

Was out for a while this afternoon and caught a couple of nice stripers (10 inch) Two Crappie ( a dink and a 11 incher) Three Smallmouth (2 dinks and one 12 inch) Lost one nice smallie that was about 14-15 inch at boatside so a Drum, was the biggest fish of the day at 13 inch. icon_rolleyes.gif

The bite seemed very light today, many hits and lost minnow. The white bass were caught on white twister tails. Marked lots of fish in the deeper water, 8-12 foot but as usual, no takers. all fish were caught in 1-4 foot of water.

The river is usually a nice fishing day regardless of what you catch because of the absense of all the weekend warriors. Lot's of nice scenery and shoreline.

Unfortunately, the stickers are issued season to season so buying one now would mean it will still expire in the spring. Go Figure. icon_confused.gif Triangle opens quite early (5-6 am) and they do sell stickers. Not sure when the baitshops on rt 173 open, Sorenson's has alway's been open by the time I get there but doesn't have stickers. I don't frequent the one further west. Anyway, if your gonna make one trip this year it would be better to just pay for the day. If your plan is to frequent the north river this fall, might as well pay the $60 some bucks and not have to worry about it again till spring. icon2.gif

Pinky's was the resort next to Oak park. Tom passed away a few years ago. The old place was torn down and property remains vacant. Kinda brings a tear to the eye, Tom and My dad were pretty good friends and I can still remember being in that place and fishing the shoreline 40 years ago. icon_eek.gif

Time flies, and nothing stay's the same as they say. icon_confused.gif

Anyway, hope you can make it up, I think the Chain itself has more fishing potential but the river has that wilderness look that has always appealed to me.

I will try to make it JD,I have been off of work with a broken leg for about a month now but will be getting this cast off this week.I have taken my boat out at least two times since the break. My wife and I went out to the Rock last week in search of some flatheads.I agree the rivere is a beatuful place. The boat that I bought out in Savanna is a good river boat,it's a 17mod V allumacraft Jon with a new merc, jet motor.Last week at the Rock we where tooling around in water 1'2"without having to trim up the motor at all.Anyhow Iwill try to make it .Yeah Pikys also used to make a mean bloody mary too:)Good folks all around the area.I made a big mistake many years ago when I lived in Cville.A bud and I where going to canoe down from Johnsburg to to where I lived near the river in Cville.Anyhow it was a Saturday morning. There where jerks purposely motoring near us with there big boats and ski boats trying to tip us.I didn't know better back then, but I used to have a pretty mean temper and was hoping that I would see their boat at the next bar around the bend :DI learned my lesson back then about when to and when not to fish the chain, weekdays not weekends :D It can be the same ice fishing channel lake on saturdays with snowmobile races.Bill D>

Launched this morning at Oak Point State park at about 8:30. We headed north into Wisconsin to hit the water discharge. Fish it with slips/minnows and twister tails with only two baby smallmouths and one largemouth caught. Last week was better at this location. We then moved down to the rt 173 bridge and fished the deeper water just north of the bridge. Several hit's with spinnerbaits but only one 12 inch drum taken. About 1pm we moved down about 1/2 mile south of the bridge and started hitting the shoreline brush and trees which produced 16 crappie ranging from 6 to 11 inches. Kept 10 for our Saturday night fry. Traffic was light and weather was great although the fishing could have been better. No white's to be found and walleye-less. icon_confused.gif Pulled out at 3:30 and headed home.

Still a nice day on the water.

Gonna repeat next Saturday if anyone want's to meet us there. icon2.gif
